This week we came up against Ringwood, a side that despite its win less start to 2013 was full of experienced senior players and a finals team in 2012.
Three changes this week, with Scott Heveren returning from injury, new recruit Lyndon Purcell (Minnow) playing his first game for TBFC and Josh “Patch” Adams returning to the senior line up following injury.
Andrew Battye (concussion), Glynn Pratt & Shane Hamilton made way for the 3 inclusions.
Pre-game the message from the coaches was quite simple, reach our set goals for pressure acts (tackles, 1%, Hard-Ball-Gets), look after our ball use, stick to our structures and the scoreboard will take care of itself.
To break it down simply – we failed to meet any of these goals, and as such let Ringwood dictate play for a large percentage of the game.
With Jarrod Bell & Jordan Stack both injured by half time it put increased pressure on our rotations, and in hindsight maybe something we failed to react to quickly enough.
Knowing that we got within 2 goals of Ringwood and with so much improvement (both as a team and individually) we remain extremely excited as a group for the challenges ahead in 3rd division.
Best for the day were Andrew Cowlishaw who dominated the air and kicked 2 goals, Brent Gallachio continued his good start to the year with another 3 goals, our skipper Luke Watson shut down Ringwoods full forward all day to be amongst the best and Craig Christie continued to run all day and never gave in.
We move onto Boronia this week with local bragging rights on the line and a challenge every single player, coach and supporter should be super excited about.
