Round 4 – The Basin Verses Boronia
This week we ventured down to Tormore Reserve to face our neighbours, Boronia, for the first time in over 10 years. Windy conditions meant it would be a hard fought contest and that’s exactly how it played out. While on the field Josh Hensler & Jarrod Bell (injury) made way for Andrew Battye & Josh Lee to return to the senior line up.
The game was extremely defensive in the first half with no side able to take any ascendancy into the half time break. Unlike last week against Ringwood, our tackle pressure was up and most importantly our decision making and talk were also up to The Basin standard.
We did a great job in the second half, firstly to deny them in the 3rd quarter when they had the breeze, and then in the last quarter for us to take some chances and reap the rewards when it was our chance to have the breeze.
In the end we will look back and see a 1 point win, but as a coaching group we felt we dominated a large percentage of the game and thoroughly deserved our win.
Jono Pittman & Dean Makin had big jobs on two of their key playmakers and played selfless football all day and both did a great job in getting us across the line. Clinton King wound back the clock to his AFL glory days with the self-proclaimed goal of the year, only to be gutted when told we didn’t video this game !! Matt Smith & Brent Gallachio were dangerous around half forward, and Andy Cultrera bobbed up with another 3 goals to continue his great start to the year. Our backline was lead admirably by skipper Luke Watson & Will Gayfer who stood tall all day.
We are now 3-1 after 4 games, sitting 4th on the ladder and we all cannot wait for the challenges that lay ahead.
