The Basin vs Mitcham
This week we took on the undefeated Mitcham on our home deck, a challenge all players and coaches were excited about.
Two debutants this week, with Jake Cosenza & Jacko Keen coming into the team after some great performances in the early game. Jordan Stack (rested) and Mike Thompson made way.
We started off in great form, kicking with a slight breeze towards the clubroom end. Andy Cultrera, Andy Cowlishaw, Matt Smith & Brent Gallachio all hit the scoreboard for four early goals and our midfield was on top and giving great supply. We kept the pressure on throughout the next 2 quarters, all our forwards looked dangerous and Trev Mills & Clinton King were enjoying the great tap work of Will Gayfer and Andrew Battye in the ruck. Confidence was high leading into the last quarter and the coaches implored the players to continue to do the basics that had built up our 35 point lead to that point in time.
Unfortunately basic errors and poor decision making let Mitcham back into the game, and with Mitcham storming back at us we were rapt to hang on and win by 6 points.
Trev Mills was a bull in the middle, Jacko Keen & Jake Cosenza both contributed really well in the first senior outing and will be better for the run, and Brent Gallachio was our best forward on the day with 5 crucial goals.
Best on Ground by a mile was Will Gayfer who took a heaps of marks all over the ground and lead the way all day. Special mention to Captain Luke Watson & Clinton Jones who did a great job in keeping Mitcham’s two key forwards almost unsighted.
This week we turn our attention to Wantirna South, who like us share a 4-1 (equal top) record. Again we are excited by the challenges ahead and expect the crowds to grow larger and louder as the boys show just what The Basin FC is capable of in Division 3 this year.
