A quick note of thanks to everyone involved in the junior finals yesterday.
This included the two teams playing finals – and the helpers who assisted the finals being held at The Basin.
This day was hosted by the juniors and I am pleased to say that we had a very good roll up of helpers – and a grateful thanks to everyone who assisted on behalf of the entire club.
The day started at around 6ish – with The Basin stalwarts John Ikin, Mark Edwards and Neil Moody doing the initial hose down and scrub in readiness for the day – closely followed by Tim (cones), Wally (line marking) and Steve (litter duty).
By 8.30am the place was looking great! Even with the heavy rain during the night, there were not too many puddles and the ground came up OK with the early morning sunshine and a bit of a breeze – although one of the visiting teams mums was hear to say (as she was gingerly tip toeing across the ground in her 7 inch stilettos) “have you got a hair dryer?” Wally was heard to comment back – “…but your hair looks fine!”
A grateful thanks also to the many helpers in the canteen – including Robyn who did all of the orders for the canteen and the BBQ – to the helpers on the entry gates, the BBQ (Andea and Kev reckon it will take a month to wash the onion smell out of their hair), the line marking, time keeping and scorekeeping and managing the site.
Congratulations also to the Under 12s for a great win against Chirnside Park. A close game all day – with The Basin getting away in the last quarter. Very exciting, especially for those back at The Basin receiving the text messages every few minutes. Well done to coach Matt and all of his assistants, trainers and helpers. One more win and they are off to the Grand Final.
The Under 15s unfortunately fell 2 points short in their match against South Croydon. After a close first quarter, South Croydon jumped ahead by 3 goals in the second and stayed there until halfway through the last quarter, when The Basin boys threw everything at them to try and wrest back the lead. Unfortunately, they were beaten by the clock and a desperate opposition. Under Coach Steve and Assistant Coach Paul, the boys will get the chance to re-load again this week and will come back with a vengance next Sunday against Waverley Blues – for their chance to play off in the Grand Final.
Next week the Under 12s will be playing St Simons at Walker Reserve, Tyner Road, Wantirna South at 10:50am.
The Under 15s will be meeting Waverley Blues at Ferntree Gully Recreation Reserve, Ferntree Gully at 2:30pm.
Good luck to both teams – the entire junior club is incredibly proud of you.
Please forward this Email on to all of your teams. We will hopefully get plenty of supporters to both of these games.
Cheers and thanks again.
