The Basin FC VS Whitehorse Pioneers
After leaving our run frustratingly late against Templestowe the week before, this week we welcomed Whitehorse Pioneers back to the bearcave.
This week Matt Smith returned to the line-up, with Chris Caulfield making way after getting a taste of senior footy last week and sure to be back in the late game before the end of the season.
We had a great start to the game with Will Gayfer dominating in the ruck and with all our midfielders cashing in, we went into ¼ time with a 6 goal lead.
All coaches implored the players to take the first option and continue to use the ball efficiently and attack at all costs.
Whilst not hitting the scoreboard himself, Matt Smith provided us with a big target we had been missing over the last few weeks and small forward like Michael Cardamone & Ben Searle all looked more dangerous as result.
Injuries to key playmakers Matt Price & Will Gayfer right on half time increased the workload on everyone and it was great to see all players respond accordingly.
Jayden ‘JB’ Brown played his best game for the club and showed why everyone worked so hard to get someone of his class into our club.
With the margin ranging from 9 – 14 goals we kept Whitehorse at a safe distance thoroughout the second half and came away with a convincing win.
The men in white don’t usually rate a mention but it was great to finally see two umpires have a good feel for the game and not want to be the centre of attention as we have seen in recent weeks.
Best on by the length of Flemington was Josh Adams, who I am sure would have had 200 ‘supercoach’ points if they were taken on the day!
Michael Cardamone finished with 6 goals (5 in the first half) to play his best game for the club and Ben Searle likewise with a 4 goal haul is his best game in TBFC colours.
With a few seasons of senior footy under his belt now, it was fantastic to see Michael Thompson finally use tear a game apart with 4 great goals playing up forward.
We now sit 3-3 and sixth on the ladder with two crucial games against Wantirna South & Boronia in the next fortnight.
All the boys know that our best footy will stack up against good opposition and look forward to showing that in the next 2 weeks and cannot wait for the challenge.
