This week we celebrate two big milestones for two veterans of the club. Scotty ‘Lenny the Lizard’ Mackay plays his 250th game and Josh ‘Rocka’ Lee will play his 200th game for The Basin FC.
In 2003 Scotty made his way to The Basin FC after having a year off from South Croydon FC. Scott’s athletic attributes matched with his foot skills meant he quickly developed into a key forward. On the social side Scott made a name for himself as the clubs lovable larrikin.
2017 is Scott’s 15th season at The Basin, during this time Scott has achieved almost everything a footballer can, he is a two time reserves premiership player, reserves captain, reserves best and fairest winner, reserves runner up best and fairest winner and the reserves club leading goal kicker in the majority, if not all, of his stellar seasons. Scott has kicked well over 300 goals in his career and his best return for the season was 83 goals in 2012. It was in Round 17, 2011 that Scotty had a field day against Surrey Park, finishing the game with 14 goals.
In 2006 after 47 games with Bayswater FC Josh decided to follow in his brothers footsteps and become a bear. Josh quickly made a name for himself as a creative ball user who rarely missed a target. He was also one of the lone long sleeve jumper warriors over the past decade. Josh built his career on his hatred of losing and still to this day goes about it the same way. He is also the first one to enjoy a cold one after the game and have a good chat to anyone who will listen. This year marks Josh’s 12th year at the club and during that time his highest accomplishment is being and integral member of our all-conquering 2012 premiership team.
Over the last decade you would’ve seen both Scotty and Josh sitting near the bar, enjoying a quiet beer and bourbon whilst having a laugh. They’re often the party starters at each and every club function! It’s clubman like Scotty and Josh that truly show what our club stands for and what local football is all about. Their attitude towards football and more importantly to the club is what creates the great environment that our club is lucky enough to have today.
On behalf of the club thank you both for your service to The Basin Football Club over the last decade.
